Movers & Shakers Pattaya

Rain or shine? Well I’ll take sunshine anytime, sorry Jamie. In late November 2010, Neel and I scheduled a business trip to Thailand to finish a client project and oversee business opportunities for expansion in the Land of Smiles. Jamie was stuck in cold miserable Vancouver coding away, we needed him to maintain headquarters while Neel and I took on this mission. In between our meetings and networking we did find some time for a few nights of liquid enjoyment. So finally after settling in Pattaya and finding a rhythm we were fortunate to attend and volunteer our services to the annual Movers & Shakers network charity event for business professionals on the Eastern Seaboard and Bangkok.

The event is organized by founder, Cees Cuijpers whose Town & Country Property company is one of the founding sponsors along with JVK International Movers, and  Real Estate Magazine Thailand . This year  Movers & Shakers welcomed new sponsors RSM Advisory Thailand and Bangkok Trader to the annual charity network function which donates all contributions and proceeds to charitable causes.

The Movers & Shakers 2010 event chose to support the Lighthouse Club of Pattaya Branch, a charitable group, that backs the Melissa Cosgrove Children’s Foundation (MCCF) run by Melissa’s mother Tracy. MCCF is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2003. The foundation works in Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Pakistan bringing hope and happiness to disadvantaged children.

This year’s turnout of more than 500 attendees establishes a strong following and a community of supporters who believe in donating for a worthwhile cause. M&S Founder Cees Cuijpers built the show around a mid-day golf tournament after which welcoming all players and guests to partake in an evening of pleasure in a corporate charity network gathering.
Making our way to the network gathering we arrived at the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya. This place was incredible, it resembled a Lost World themed hotel. Walking the grounds in amazement, the detailed design and sense of adventure the resort emanates was impressive. I started to wonder if there was a petting zoo for dinosaurs?
A 5 star resort facing the ocean where the guests gathered on the terrace in anticipation of what the night would hold. Drinks and appies were served and the Movers & Shakers event was just beginning.
The Centara staff punctually rung the bells and greeted everyone into the main ballroom. Lighthouse Club of Pattaya Chairman, Cees Cuijpers was delighted to inform everyone linked with Movers & Shakers that additional charitable bodies, the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT) and the Austcham – Australian Chamber of Commerce have decided to merge their share of the charity proceeds giving the Melissa Cosgrove Children Foundation, the chosen charity of the Lighthouse Club Pattaya, no less than Bt210,000 from the event! A great donation to charity! This is in part due to the overwhelming support and success of the event and achievements made by the LHC Pattaya network events of this year.
